The Oregon Hop Growers Association in 1963 voted to petition the Oregon Department of Agriculture to form a Commodity Commission, and in 1964 the Oregon Hop Commission was formed. The function of the commission is to provide for research to maintain the economic stability of hop production through assessments paid by all Oregon hop growers. The current assessment rate is $0.014 per pound of dried hops produced. The growers are represented by seven growers, one dealer/handler, and one public member to facilitate the business of the Oregon Hop Commission. The Oregon Hop Commission has been a valuable vehicle for our progress in the international hop market.

The Hop Research Council is a non-profit organization that funds and directs hop research to benefit the U.S. hop industry. Members include domestic and international brewers, hop dealers, and hop grower organizations.

The Council was established in 1979 by a group of hop industry members that believed in the benefit of a united hop research effort. Today, the original goal remains true. Brewers, Dealers, and Growers work together to fund and direct hop research, ensuring a bright future for the U.S. hop industry.
