Artist's Statement
I paint furniture because I like the idea of creating something that is both decorative and functional, art that is also useful. I begin with a piece of furniture, preferably one that has a pleasing design and interesting lines. After careful preparation, I use oils, acrylics, and metal leaf to transform the surface and create colors, patterns, and lines that describe rather than copy a subject.

My goal is for the furniture and painting to look like they were meant for each other. Consequently, I spend a good amount of time studying each piece. I keep them in my studio where I can look at them every day and get to know them. Often, the images that come to me are from nature, my favorite artist. I admire Her intricate patterns and inventive color combinations.
